2025 Year in Review
2025 was an impressive year of advancing world-class science, inspiring learning, and safely operating the complex infrastructure that makes up the deepest underground laboratory in the United States.
A year of advancing world-class science
A year of milestones and accomplishments for SURF operations.
From an overhaul of the Yates Shaft and a new skip cage in the Ross Shaft, to a pump room overhaul and a major upgrade on the Water Treatment Plant, SURF's operations team has safely completed an impressive year of milestones.

A year of inspiring learning across generations:
Education has been a vital part of SURF since the inception of the laboratory. Any of the 22,000 students reached this past school year could be the scientists, engineers, technicians, administrators, or educators at SURF tomorrow.
