When it comes to eating out, tracking our activity and choosing healthy foods, our phones just might be the best tool to keep us on track. To continue this November's nutrition campaign, Sanford Underground Research Facility's Working Wellness Group has earmarked a few free apps that could help you focus on nutritious eating—just in time for the holidays.

HealthyOut

Americans tend to eat out a lot, and at restaurants and take-out joints people often give themselves a “hall pass” from healthy eating. This can results in a reversal of hard fought gains from good eating habits, but eating out doesn’t have to be a guilty pleasure. Many restaurants offer healthy options that align with even the strictest eating plans. HealthyOut helps you find them. It provides access to menus of local restaurants, and matches items on their menu to your dietary needs and preferences.

Fooducate

Fooducate helps you shop and eat healthy by allowing you to quickly pull up nutritional information about food products from barcodes. The app also allows you to make sense of nutritional labels. Fooducate displays a letter grade from A to D, along with a quick summary of nutrition information in plain language; it suggests healthy alternatives, too. If you cook your own meals or eat out, you can also manually enter a meal's nutritional information. In addition, the app also doubles as an intake, calorie and exercise tracker. A pro subscription removes ads and unlocks additional features.

Lose It!

Lose It! uses the proven principles of calorie tracking to educate and help you succeed. To get started just input your profile details with your goal weight and we’ll calculate the daily calorie budget best for you. Next, easily track your food, weight, and activity and get ready to celebrate your weight loss victories. There’s no easier way to change your habits and learn about your nutrition needs.
