Network Overview

The network architecture of the Sanford Underground Research Facility integrates many separate logical networks into an enterprise-wide campus network, which supports surface network connectivity to a variety of locations and underground connectivity at various levels to support science and communications.

The external connections include a connection to an ISP for standard Internet connectivity and a connection to the South Dakota Research, Education and Economic Development (REED) network. The REED network provides high-speed connectivity to the higher education resources within the state of South Dakota as well as a direct connection to Internet2. The REED network also supports a connection to an ESNet router in Kansas City Missouri for connectivity to the Department of Energy’s national laboratories.
