Educator Resource: Curriculum Module

Move It!

What makes things move? How can we control their movement? Explore how many of our everyday experiences depend on predicting and controlling motion of objects by using just the right push or pull.
Level
Early Elementary
Time required
Minimum of thirteen 30-minute sessions

During this unit students will explore the motion of objects and manipulate the forces required to control that motion. Students also analyze data from tests of two objects designed to solve the same problem to compare strengths and weaknesses of how each performs. As this unit comes to a close, students will examine push and pull forces at work at the Sanford Underground Research Facility.

Move It-- Forces and Motion

K-PS2-1 Plan and carry out an investigation to compare the effects of different strengths or different directions of pushes and pulls on the motion of an object.

K-PS2-2 Analyze data to determine if a design solution works as intended to change the speed or direction of an object with a push or pull.*

K-2-ETS1-3 Analyze data from tests of two objects designed to solve the same problem to compare the strengths and weaknesses of how each performs.
