Particle Accelerators–Smashing Science

Did you know that a scientist from Canton, South Dakota created the first circular particle accelerator? Learn how particle accelerators work and why they are indispensable when studying neutrinos.
Upper Elementary

Imagine getting a subatomic particle to accelerate to near the speed of light! Students learn how particle accelerators work and the role they play in studying neutrinos. Students are also introduced to the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE), and the particle accelerator that makes this experiment possible.

*Recommended for grades 4-5.
