How better to celebrate Pi Day than with a movie that celebrates mathematicians? At this year’s event, Sanford Lab will screen “Hidden Figures,” a film about three African-American women mathematicians who made valuable contributions to NASA during the early years of the United States’ space program.

Kelly Kirk, an Instructor of History, Assistant Director of the University Honors Program, and Director of the Veterans Legacy Program at Black Hills State University, will introduce the movie and lead a discussion after the screening.

Originally from North Dakota, Kelly graduated with her BA from Black Hills State and completed her graduate work at Montana State University-Bozeman.

The free screening takes place Wednesday, March 14, at the Sanford Lab Homestake Visitor Center, 160 W. Main St. In Lead, South Dakota. The event begins at 5 p.m. with a social; the movie will begin at 5:30 p.m. Free popcorn will be served.
