Join us at the Ruddell Gallery for Kapemni | twisting between worlds, an exhibition by Rachel Olivia Berg, the 2026 Artist in Residence at the Sanford Underground Research Facility.
Berg’s work explores questions that emerge where scientific investigations into the fundamental nature of matter intersect with Indigenous ways of knowing. Drawing from the creation stories and star knowledge of the Oceti Sakowin, she considers the connections between art, science, spirit, and land.
Working across painting, sculpture, cyanotype, and installation, Berg examines how knowledge moves, how new ways of understanding emerge, and the methods humans use to approach unseen dimensions of existence. Centering He Sapa (the Black Hills), her work reflects on the complex histories held within the land while exploring how artistic and scientific inquiry can open pathways toward knowledge, healing, and a deeper understanding of our place within the universe.
