Searching for Gravitational Waves from the Big Bang

This talk will give a broad overview of the temperature anisotropy and polarization of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) for those who are not cosmologists, explaining why it is a foundation for the standard model of cosmology. The model is not complete and there are a number of open questions, including: Are there measurable gravitational waves from the early universe? To address this, this talk will review a new experimental search for these primordial gravitational waves with the Simons Observatory.
