Chris Burger retires from SURF after leading “people-centric,” digital transformation of HR
“It has been an incredible honor to work at SURF. I’ve loved every minute,” Burger said.
The Human Resources Manager at the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF), Christine Burger, is retiring after a distinguished career that includes the last three years leading the human resources department at America’s Underground Lab. Burger led the digital transformation of HR processes and records at SURF, helping the facility achieve its vision of becoming the world’s preferred location for underground science and education. SURF has continually grown during her tenure, and her efforts, including her people-centric focus, have enabled SURF to attract and retain the best and brightest talent.
“It has been an incredible honor to work at SURF. I’ve loved every minute,” Burger said. “My time here has been filled with meaningful moments and rewarding collaborations—all focused on enhancing the employee experience rooted in our core values. The best part, without a doubt, has been working alongside the remarkable people who make SURF what it is. Being part of America’s Underground Lab and its mission has been a privilege I will always treasure. Wishing SURF and all my colleagues continued success.”

Burger and her husband are looking forward to spending more time with family who live around the country, enjoying the Black Hills on their motorcycle, attending more concerts, and checking off some bucket list items like seeing the Kentucky Derby and traveling the world.
