SURF hosts annual fundraiser, public event, for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

SURF is once again raising funds for local breast cancer patients while raising awareness about breast cancer overall.

Pink ribbons now illuminate the Yates and Ross Headframes at Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF). They will shine through October as a visual reminder of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Each October since 2018, the SURF community has rallied around the cause. The fundraiser in support of Foundation for Health in the Northern Black Hills has brought in more than $48,864 for the Foundation for Health over the past eight years.

Foundation for Health offers financial assistance to individuals and families who have needs that accompany a healthcare crisis. The mission of Foundation for Health is to raise funds and receive contributions to promote and support the health and safety needs of our community through individuals, groups, and health entities to enhance well-being.

This year, SURF has a goal of raising $5,000 through the Pink October Initiative. The effort is organized by the SURF Well-Being Team and open to all.

Events include the Play for Pink Cornhole Tournament from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16, at Manuel Brothers Park, Lead.

SURF is also hosting a month-long raffle with a prize of custom-made cornhole boards.
