Public Science Talk: What the Motions of Stars Reveal About Dark Matter
at Meier Hall Auditorium, Black Hills State University, Spearfish
What makes up most of our galaxy, yet remains completely invisible?
Join the Institute for Underground Science at SURF for a free public science talk with Dr. Sukanya Chakrabarti, Pei-Ling Chan Endowed Chair in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Alabama Huntsville.
Dr. Chakrabarti will explain how astronomers use extraordinarily precise measurements of stellar motions to map the distribution of dark matter throughout the Milky Way. Learn about recent discoveries—including evidence for a dark matter clump near our Sun—and how future observations may help solve one of astronomy's greatest mysteries.
