A Showing of Howasteya Oyuspapi: Capturing Their Good Voices
A documentary created with the goal of documenting and preserving elders’ wisdom, cultural knowledge, and experiences for future generations.
Produced in 2022, the film was led by Urla Marcus and Rosie Sprague from Black Hills State University’s Center for American Indian Studies, who brought together a team of work-study students to handle camera work, editing, and interviews.
Traveling across South Dakota, the team met with six respected elders who generously shared their stories and insights. This moving documentary offers a rare opportunity to listen, learn, and celebrate the voices of elders who continue to guide their communities with wisdom and strength.
This is a free viewing event held at the Sanford Lab Homestake Visitor Center.
