SURF announces the latest book from Steven T. Mitchell, invites public to book signing event

 

LEAD, SD— The South Dakota Science and Technology Authority (SDSTA) invites the public to a book signing with Steven T. Mitchell, author of The Riches of Our Universe: The Homestake Legacy at the Sanford Underground Research Facility.

The event will be held on Saturday, April 22, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Sanford Lab Homestake Visitor Center (Visitor Center) in Lead, South Dakota. Guests will have the opportunity to meet the author and purchase a signed copy of his latest release, The Riches of Our Universe. Light refreshments will be provided.

About The Riches of Our Universe:

Filled with vibrant photographs, maps, and diagrams, this coffee-table book traces the story of the Homestake Gold Mine through the discovery of gold in the Black Hills, 125 years of mining, the mine’s closure in 2001, and the creation of an underground science facility in its place. The book was published earlier this year by the SDSTA and is available for purchase at the Visitor Center.

About the author:

Mitchell is a native and life-long resident of the Black Hills of South Dakota. He is a graduate of South Dakota Mines with BS and MS degrees in mining engineering. Mitchell spent his mining career with Homestake Mining Company at the Homestake Mine in Lead, South Dakota, now the home of the Sanford Underground Research Facility. His latest book, The Riches of Our Universe, is a successor to his first book, Nuggets to Neutrinos: The Homestake Story. He and his wife, Cindy, live in Rapid City and have two grown children, Brian and Sheryl.
