As a Matter of Fact
What is matter? Why do we select certain materials when making things? Explore answers to these questions (and more) as you work to understand some basic properties of matter and put them to work.
Curriculum module media
During this unit students learn that matter can be described and classified by its observable properties. They test a variety of materials to determine which have properties that are best suited for an intended purpose. Students will ask questions, make observations, and gather information about a simple problem that can be solved through the development of an improved object. They then make a recommendation to SURF engineers about which materials they consider to be the best fit for the job and why.
