Join us for the next John Bahcall Colloquium featuring Dr. Richard Gaitskell, LZ Experiment Spokesperson, Hazard Professor of Physics, Director of the Center for the Fundamental Physics of the Universe, Brown University

Dark matter makes up most of the matter in our universe, influencing the structure of the cosmos and the motion of galaxies, yet its nature has remained elusive to scientists for decades. LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ), located nearly a mile underground at the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) in Lead, South Dakota, is one of the world’s most sensitive experiments searching for dark matter. Using a 7-tonne liquid xenon target, LZ is designed to directly search for Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs), a leading dark matter candidate. In this lecture, Dr. Richard Gaitskell will provide an overview of the LZ experiment and discuss its latest results.

The John Bahcall Colloquium is a free, monthly scientific colloquium hosted by The Institute for Underground Science at the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF), bringing together researchers from across the global scientific community. The series features talks spanning underground science, astrophysics, neutrino physics, and related fields, providing a forum for sharing new results, exchanging ideas, and fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration.
