Headley to Ops: Thank You!

Editor?s note: the following message to SDSTA staff is from Sanford Lab Director Mike Headley.

The past few months have been an incredible time of success and major change at the Sanford Lab. The Davis Campus outfitting is complete. The installation of the Large Underground Xenon and Majorana Demonstrator experiments is well under way. Our vision for an operational physics laboratory on the 4850 Level is now a reality. I?m very proud of the entire SDSTA team and of our contractor partners for reaching this major milestone.

While the completion of the Davis Campus has received a lot of attention, both here and around the nation, we can?t forget that the work performed every day to operate and maintain the Sanford Lab. That work is essential to our success. Specifically, I want to recognize the Operations Department, which maintains major facility systems such as the Ross and Yates shafts and hoists, the dewatering and water treatment systems, ventilation systems, electrical and cyberinfrastructure systems, hazard mitigation controls and major safety systems.

Without safe, reliable access to the facility, science can?t operate. It?s that simple. Our operations crews and the SDSTA staff who support them make a difference every single day. Your skill and hard work have made milestones like the completion of the Davis Campus a reality. I?d like to express my sincere appreciation to the operations crews and to the entire SDSTA team. The work you perform every single day moves us forward in support of the compelling scientific research that has been done and that will be done right here in South Dakota.
