Space Age South Dakota premieres at Neutrino Day 2019

SDPB's documentary highlights South Dakota's contributions to the United States space program and the aerospace industry

While South Dakota may not be the first place that comes to mind when one thinks of the Space Age, multiple people, places and institutions in the state have contributed—and continue to contribute—to the United States space program and the aerospace industry. “Images of the Past: Space Age South Dakota,” a South Dakota Public Broadcasting documentary, highlights those contributions.

The program features the Stratobowl, the site of early high-altitude balloon flights; South Dakota School of Mines & Technology graduates who have gone on to work for NASA; the role that the U.S. Geological Survey’s Earth Resources Observation Satellite Center (EROS) has played in mapping the effects of climate on Earth; and more.

For a sneak preview, stop by the Sanford Underground Research Facility during Neutrino Day on Saturday, July 13. Viewing times are 9:00 a.m., 10:30 a.m., noon and 2:00 p.m., and popcorn will be served. The program is scheduled to air on SDPB-TV on Thursday, July 18 at 7:00 p.m. Mountain Time.
