Board Member SURF Foundation BoardScience Program Advisory Committee Physics

Barbara Szczerbinska is a Professor of Physics at Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC) in Corpus Christi, TX. Prior moving to Texas, she served as a faculty at Dakota State University (DSU) in Madison, SD. Dr. Szczerbinska earned her M.S. from University of Wroclaw in Wroclaw, Poland and her Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC. Currently she serves as an Associate Dean of Academic Affairs in College of Science and Engineering at TAMU-CC.

Her research focus on theoretical aspects of Neutrino and Geoneutrino Physics and Dark Matter, and her intensive collaborations with scientists from around the world, lead to establishing in 2011 the Center for Theoretical Underground Physics and Related Fields known internationally as CETUP*. The mission of CETUP* was to promote organized research in physics, astrophysics, geoscience, and other fields related to the underground science via individual and collaborative research in a dynamic atmosphere of intense scientific interactions. She also successfully organized multiple regional and international conferences, for example International Conference of Interconnections between Particle Physics and Cosmology (PPC), APS Conference for Undergraduate Women in Physics (CUWiP), International Conference on Supersymmetry and Unification of Fundamental Interactions (SUSY), Spring Meeting of the Texas Sections of APS, AAPT and Zone 13 of the SPS.

Barbara is also heavily involved in promoting STEM to people of all ages. As part of her education outreach initiatives in South Dakota, she established in 2012 an annual regional ‘It’s All About Science’ science festival. She also served on the Board of Directors for the Kirby Science Center and Community Learning Committee at the Washington Pavilion and Osher Lifelong Learning Institute Leadership Council in Sioux Falls. Currently she serves on multiple college and university committees, technical review panels and is actively involved in education outreach initiatives in Corpus Christi. She is a member of Phi Kappa Phi and American Association of University Women, an APS trainer for Negotiations and Professional Skills and serves as Past Chair on the National Organizing Committee Leadership (NOC-L) of the American Physical Society (APS) Conference for Undergraduate Women in Physics and Chair Elect for the Texas Section of APS.
