Ian Evans

Ian Evans is presently serving as SLAC’s Director for Environment, Safety & Health, and Chief Safety Officer. With responsibility for all aspects of the intellectual leadership and management of SLAC’s ES&H division whose mission is to ensure the Laboratory has and implements an excellent program in safety, health, environmental protection, and security.
He has over 35 years of technical and management experience, primarily in the areas of large DOE projects, and operational and experimental safety at accelerator-based DOE user facilities. He has previous experience working and managing programs at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and CERN, Switzerland.
In this capacity, he has broad responsibilities, including development, implementation and oversight of Project ESH programs; and providing overall assurance that major projects are conducting their activities in a safe manner and in compliance with required policies, procedures and DOE Orders. Combining strong technical and communication skills, and the ability to engage stakeholders, he has built programs from the ground up too effectively carry out science and laboratory mission needs.
