Magdalena Osburn
Life Science
Dr. Magdalena (Maggie) Osburn is an Associate Professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Northwestern University. Her work bridges the interface between organic geochemistry, molecular biology, and biogeochemistry and is aimed at understanding how microbes interact with the Earth (and potentially other planets). She works on a variety of spatial and temporal scales spanning old rocks to modern microbiology and surficial to deep subsurface habitats. She an AT&T research fellow, a fellow in the CIFAR Earth 4D, an NSF CAREER award winner, and a 2017 Packard fellow. Dr. Osburn graduated with a Ph.D. in Geobiology from Caltech in 2013 (M.A. 2009), a B.A. in Earth and Planetary Science and Environmental Studies from Washington University in St. Louis in 2007 and did postdoctoral work at the University of Southern California from 2013-2014.
