William McElroy

William ‘Will’ McElroy serves as the Deputy Director for Operations at Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) in Lead, South Dakota, and is responsible for underground/surface operations and engineering. He has over 20 years of experience in project management and is certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP). 

Before rejoining SURF in 2019, Will served as President of Ainsworth- Benning Construction, A Journey Group company, for four years, the Director for Underground Access and Operations Program Manager at SURF for 7 years, and a contract employee for Science Applications International Corp, Raytheon & Stinger Graffarian Technologies (an aerospace contractor to the U.S. Geological Survey) for 10 years. Will has executive leadership experience with public and private funded projects, and volunteer organizations.
